Church of St Clement

Honolulu, Hawai'i

  Op. 2048, 1942-2010

39 Stops, 25 Ranks    Entire instrument speaks on 5" wind pressure  Bold stops are new or reconstructed.

This instrument was originally installed in 1942. Sixty years later, it was overdue for mechanical and tonal renovation.

The new installation included all new chest actions, solid-state switching, a new, exposed Great Organ and a new console.

With a generous assortment of colorful voices, variety of dynamic and other elements, the organ is more versatile than ever before.

Congregational and choral singing has been improved, and the effect in the room is impressive.

The console is a new design for Austin Organs:

A Terraced design, based on the popular Austin CURVED nameboard console, with a French flair.

The console center back panel was based on the design found on the bed of Queen Emma, wife of King Kamehameha IV. It is she who is credited with the propagation of the Anglican faith in the Islands. The Daughters of Hawai`i generously allowed us access to photograph and scale the headboard, which was then reproduced for the center panel on the back of the console in marquetry; the inlay of seven different species of wood, genuine mother-of-pearl and 24 karat gold leaf. This work was completed by master craftsman Frank Lerose.

Original 1942 Facade treatment (all non-speaking pipes from original organ)
